Avery’s Bronze Award: DIY Snuffle Mats

Snuffle mats are a great tool for dogs and cats to use to help hone their sniffing and searching skills. By placing a treat under one of the pieces of fleece, your pet will have to “hunt” for the reward.

Here’s how you can make one!

Gather your materials. The mat pictured is a dish mat from our local dollar store, but you can also use anti-fatigue mats available at most hardware or office supply stores if you want to make a larger one

Cut the fleece into 1 inch by 8 inch strips

Thread the strip through one of the holes so that the ends are of equal length

Tie the strip using an overhand knot

Continue to tie strips until the mat is full

Hide a treat under some of the strips

Enjoy watching your pet hunt for its reward!
